My eight-year-old son Gannon is among the first “analog free” consumers. Just after he was born, I installed a TiVo in the basement and hard wired it into the network of coaxial cables that supply video to all of the televisions in the house. A video modulator inserts the picture from the TiVo onto channel 16 throughout the house and a small infrared receiver on top of each set is wired to an infrared emitter in front of the TiVo in the basement to provide a method of controlling it without running up and down the steps. IPTV may be the hottest tech trend on the NXTcomm08 show floor this June 16-19, but it is in no way the only issue on the minds of exhibitors and attendees.
