Keeping in Step with the Complex Needs of Today's Consumer
Tuesday, June 17 • 12:10 PM - 12:30 PM • Room S113
Change is in the air. Telcos are aggressively battling cable and satellite providers to be the video pipe into the home. With each side looking for an edge, opportunities indeed exist to use new programming on new platforms as a means of grabbing market share.
In the backdrop of a macro video marketplace that is in flux — with changing demographics and new technology that is further changing the rules of the game — the appeal of movies remains evergreen. Consumers love them. Learn how one of the leading homes for commercial-free premium movies is expanding its charter into original programming while staying true to its mission as the greatest dependable destination for movie programming in the US.
Further examine how tiering, packaging and pricing systems that most cable companies offer today are relics of the 1970s when satellite television first began to appear. Consumers cannot even have an opportunity to buy services from premium programmers until they have already purchased about $75 worth of basic and expanded basic services. As the bundles become more complex and expensive, that price continues to rise. Recognizing this dynamic presents even more opportunity for new entrants to the competitive marketplace.
