Mobile Backhaul – Technology vs. Reality

Tuesday, June 17  • 12:10 PM - 12:30 PM • Room S111

A joint presentation by Glen Hunt, Principal Analyst, Current Analysis and Dr. Ray Mota, Chief Strategist, Synergy Research which highlights what is possible from a technology perspective contrasted with the actual plans and service provider implementation trends for mobile backhaul solutions based on a recent survey prepared by The Synergy Research Group for the Metro Ethernet Forum.

Glen will outline the various technologies being proposed by vendors and present their pros and cons from a technology perspective; while Ray will balance out the presentation with actual survey data outlining the importance mobile operators have assigned to the various mobile backhaul strategies as gleaned from interviews with key mobile providers.

With the rapid growth in bandwidth requirements brought on by new video and data applications, mobile operators are faced with the daunting task of evolving their current infrastructures while building the high capacity capabilities needed for their next generation networks. The presentation will address various backhaul approaches and include examples of wireline as well as wireless options that mobile operators can consider.
