What They’re Saying About NXTcomm08 and the Industry
What do you see as the biggest opportunities in the industry?
“The biggest opportunities lie in helping our customers reduce the cost of deploying infrastructure that supports the FTTP/FTTX initiatives in any way possible. Helping our customers meet, or exceed installation and service turn-up deadlines, will ensure that they win the war for “life-long” subscribers that will create on-going revenue streams for years to come. They know they can easily compete with the cable industry, so we just have to help them deliver the product to the customer as quickly and inexpensively as possible. Any company that can focus in on providing the products and services that help our customers better compete in the intense race for new subscribers will have incredible opportunities in this industry for many years to come.
There will also be huge opportunities to assist customers with the challenge of funding the support of legacy networks, and the eventual retirement, or migration of legacy network elements to IP based infrastructure at minimal cost. Devices that provide least cost single port legacy to IP mediation will be in big demand. The industry no longer has budgets to replace this critical network, but it will still have to maintain it for at least another decade.”

The role of today’s network is much different than in years past. Ubiquitous connectivity has taken us to a point where virtually everything is connected and has transformed the network from “plumbing” to a platform. Moving forward the network will become the most scalable, cost effective platform for computing and application delivery. |

Opening the Network – Tightly Linking the Network and Applications |
Several networking vendors claim that they have opened the network, but what defines an open network? What benefits does it provide to enterprises and end-users? This session will examine these questions, providing a new vision for the ‘Network as a Platform’ which tightly links network and applications. It will discuss real life scenarios and will demonstrate the evolution of the integrated network to an open network platform. |

Keynote: Computing as a Service: Next Frontier in On-Demand Computing Christopher Gesell, Director of Global Product Marketing, IT Solutions, Verizon |
On-demand is fast becoming a reality. To harness on-demand computing, enterprises require a global platform that separates applications from hardware, creating a shared pool of computing resources that can be allocated. This is Computing as a Service (CaaS). CaaS provides a highly resilient computing infrastructure that enables enterprises to leverage a true on-demand model, employing computing resources (server, storage, security and network) exactly and only when needed via an agile and affordable infrastructure. At the forefront of this movement is Verizon Business. Backed by the world's most powerful global IP network, Verizon Business is poised to help enterprises understand how they can use CaaS to maximize IT resources. |
